Problem Solvers Caucus Endorses Legislation to Restore National Parks and Public Lands

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chairs, Reps Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) and Tom Suozzi (NY-03), announced the Caucus’ endorsement of the America the Beautiful Act (H.R. 9250), bipartisan legislation to address overdue repairs at America’s national parks, public lands, and Bureau of Indian Education schools.

The America the Beautiful Act established the National Parks and Public Lands Legacy Restoration Fund to address longstanding maintenance needs across federal lands. While the fund has supported critical infrastructure improvements nationwide, its authorization expired in September 2025, leaving substantial repair needs unresolved. These investments help keep public lands safe and accessible while supporting jobs and local communities that depend on outdoor recreation.

The America the Beautiful Act would:

  • Reauthorize the Legacy Restoration Fund for five years at $1.9 billion annually.
  • Support priority repairs to roads, bridges, trails, campgrounds, water systems, historic structures, and school facilities.
  • Maintain funding for the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Bureau of Indian Education.
  • Strengthen accountability through improved reporting on project selection and preventive maintenance.
  • Prohibit the use of funds for federal land acquisition.

The legislation is led in the House by Natural Resources Committee Chairman Bruce Westerman (AR-04) and Ranking Member Jared Huffman (CA-02) and was brought forward for Caucus endorsement by Representatives Susie Lee (NV-03) and Davud Valadao (CA-22). The Senate version, the America the Beautiful Act (S. 1547), is led by Senators Steve Daines (R-MT), Angus King (I-ME), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), and Mark Warner (D-VA).

“Nevada is home to more federal land than any state south of Alaska, including some of the most incredible parks and outdoor recreation areas in the world. Since its enactment in 2020, the Great American Outdoors Act has provided federal land managers with the resources they need to be able to successfully tackle decades of deferred maintenance and modernize park facilities in Nevada and nationwide through the Legacy Restoration Fund,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03). “The America the Beautiful Act builds on this success by extending and expanding the Legacy Restoration Fund, ensuring that we continue to invest in our country’s iconic public lands. I’m proud to co-lead the Problem Solvers Caucus’ endorsement of this bipartisan, bicameral bill with my friend Rep. Valadao and will keep working with my colleagues in both chambers, and on both sides of the aisle, to get it to the President’s desk.”

“Our national parks, forests, and wildlife refuges are a big part of what makes California—and our nation—so special, and we have a responsibility to preserve them for generations to come,” said Congressman David Valadao (CA-22). “The America the Beautiful Act takes important steps to address critical maintenance needs, support rural gateway communities that rely on tourism, and expand outdoor recreation opportunities for visitors from around the world. As we continue to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, I’m grateful to see the Problem Solvers Caucus endorse this bipartisan legislation to revitalize our public lands for the future.”

"Our national parks and public lands are a great American treasure! We have a responsibility to protect and maintain them, and the America the Beautiful Act helps us to do just that. By investing nearly $2 billion a year for the next five years, this bipartisan, bicameral bill builds on our shared commitment to address long-overdue maintenance and ensure families can continue taking advantage of our national parks, trails, and public lands,” said Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chair Congressman Tom Suozzi (NY-03). “I’m glad to be joining my Problem Solvers colleagues in supporting this commonsense legislation to preserve and restore our great outdoor spaces for future generations to enjoy."

“As we continue to celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary of independence, there is no greater cause than ensuring our great outdoors and public spaces are open and cared for. The America the Beautiful Act is a bipartisan commitment to invest in our national parks, public lands, and Bureau of Indian Education facilities. I am proud to join my Problem Solvers Caucus colleagues to protect and enhance our nation’s most treasured spaces,” said Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chair Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01).
