Problem Solvers Caucus Urges Congress to Act Ahead of Upcoming Government Funding Deadline

January 20, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Problem Solvers Caucus endorsed the following statement on the upcoming government funding deadline.

"Congress must perform its most basic duty to negotiate and pass all 12 Appropriations bills, so they may be signed into law by the January 30 deadline. We must do everything we can to avoid a government shutdown.”

The Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chairs added:

“Funding the daily operations of government is the fundamental responsibility of the United States Congress,” said Co-Chair Congressman Tom Suozzi (NY-03). “Hopefully, we can get the job done, and then move on to more tasks where Democrats and Republicans can find common ground. The Problem Solvers urge common sense.”

“Shutdowns don’t solve problems — they create them,” said Co-Chair Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01). “They waste taxpayer dollars, disrupt the lives of families and workers, and tell the country that leadership has broken down on both sides. The responsible course is clear and well within our reach: come together, complete the appropriations process, and keep the government open. That is how Congress should function — and the standard the American people deserve.”
