Problem Solvers Caucus Executive Council Sends Letter to House and Senate Leadership Calling for Bipartisan Appropriations Discussions

September 7, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Executive Council of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus sent a letter to House and Senate leadership urging leaders to put their differences aside amid discussions to fund the government.

The letter was signed by Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chairs Congressmen Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) and Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05), Vice-Chairs Congressmen Ed Case (HI-01), Dusty Johnson (SD-AL), Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03), and Whips Congressmen Don Bacon (NE-02) and Jared Golden (ME-02).

The full letter reads as follows:

“Dear Speaker McCarthy, Minority Leader Jeffries, Majority Leader Schumer, and Minority Leader McConnell:

We, as Executive Council of the Problem Solvers Caucus, are concerned about the fast-approaching September 30 deadline to fund the government. The lack of progress on an appropriations package has created a real possibility for a government shutdown, which will affect millions of hard-working families and our service members. A government shutdown will put at risk military pay and benefits, progress on defense and infrastructure projects, federal food inspections, the safety of our nation’s transportation, and will cost jobs, profits, and economic growth.

Hyper-partisan rhetoric and extremism have harmed our legislative process, and our ability to protect America’s economy and national security.

The House has 11 legislative days left before the fiscal year ends; the Senate has 15.

For the good of our country, the Executive Council of the Problem Solvers Caucus urges House and Senate leadership to put differences aside and sit down together in the spirit of bipartisanship every single day until a solution is reached.”
